Project: logo Design for Causal Cognition Lab

The Challenge
The Causal Cognition Lab, an academic research team at Central European University in Vienna, required a logo that represented their emphasis on human cognition and causality. The objective was to design a straightforward, professional logo that effectively communicates the ideas of causality and cognition, while also being adaptable for various platforms.
Concept
The concept is based on connection, logic, and cause–effect relationships.
Interconnected circular shapes were used to symbolize brain activity and causal links. A moving ball striking the letter C represents an action that causes change, visually expressing the idea of causality in a minimal and intuitive way.
Visual Direction
-
Minimal and academic tone
-
Clean geometric forms
-
Interconnected circles
-
Clear cause–effect symbolism
-
Neutral, professional color use
Process
I began by researching the lab’s academic focus and research context. Early concept exploration focused on abstract visual metaphors for cognition and causality. After selecting the strongest direction, the logo was refined to ensure clarity, balance, and adaptability across formats.

Outcome
The logo is used across the lab’s communication materials, including the university website, posters, and physical signage.
